RES-10677 Loyal Service Appreciation For Alice AngusRESOLUTION NO. 10677 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO ALICE ANGUS, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR, COMMENDING HER FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS OF PUBLIC SERVICE INCLUDING TWELVE YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITY OF ORANGE. WHEREAS, Alice Angus began her career with the City of Orange on October 2, 2000 as the Community Development Director. Alice has over 30 years of experience working in the public sector planning profession. She received a bachelor's degree in Economics and Political Science from Barat College in Lake Forest, Illinois in 1977, and a master's degree in Urban and Regional Economics in 1979 from USC. She started her planning career with an internship in Garden Grove in 1979 and has worked for the Cities of Rancho Palos Verdes, Costa Mesa, and Cypress before coming to the City of Orange; and WHEREAS, through her guidance and leadership in Orange, Alice has significantly contributed to many high profile projects in Orange such as the East Orange and Santiago Hills II project; the Block expansion plan; the General Plan update; various Chapman University projects and specific plan; Del Rio; and CHOC Master Plan, just to mention a few; and WHEREAS, she has been a member of the American Planning Association since 1980, a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners since 1991 and a member of the Urban Land Institute. She is actively involved in the Planning Directors Association of Orange County and served as the President in 2005. In 2005, Alice was recognized for her years of outstanding work in the planning field with the "Distinguished Leadership Award" from the Orange Section of the American Planning Association; and WHEREAS, Alice's strong leadership skills have made a lasting impact on the Community Development Department. During her tenure in Orange, she has shown her excellent decision making, leadership, management, and team building skills. Her breadth of experience and engagement in her profession are exemplary, and make her an effective mentor to her staff and well- respected by her peers both at the City of Orange and throughout the County while having a good sense of humor; and WHEREAS, Alice will be most remembered for her willingness to work with the building community forging valuable relationships with the business and development community that helped the City retain and attract quality businesses, making Orange one of the strongest and most desirable marketplaces in Orange County; and WHEREAS, Alice is known for her generosity in giving of her time and skills to help rebuild housing throughout the United States, including actively assisting with the rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina. She is also known for her love of baseball and her beloved "Anaheim Angels ". She can be seen throughout City Hall the days after an Angel victory sporting one of her many Angel pins. She has been known to travel the world not only with her husband, but with her golf clubs as well. Alice is an avid golfer and she will be missed in the "City Hall Foursomes "; and WHEREAS, Alice has been a valuable member of the City of Orange Executive Management Team, working hard to foster a high level of teamwork and cooperation across all departments. Her friendship, camaraderie, and travel updates will be greatly missed by the Executive Team. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Orange expresses sincere appreciation and congratulations to Alice Angus for her over 30 Years of Public Service including 12 years of loyal and dedicated service to the City of Orange, and wishes Alice and her husband Pat, a happy, healthy, and fulfilling retirement as they embark on a new joint adventure traveling around the globe serving in the United States Peace Corps.
