A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE REGARDING THE 2013
CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY CLOSURE.
WHEREAS, in the calendar year 2013, the holidays of Christmas and New Year's
Day fall on Wednesdays and are currently provided to City employees as paid holidays; and,
WHEREAS, most benefited, full -time City employees are provided with one -half
day of paid holiday leave on Christmas Eve (December 24, 2013), a full day of pay on
Christmas Day (December 25, 2013), and one day of paid holiday leave on New Year's Day
January 1, 2014) per their respective Memoranda of Understanding; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to express its sincere appreciation to City
employees for their dedicated service to the City and its citizens throughout the year; and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the value of time spent with families during
the holiday season; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to effectively accommodate time -off requests
by City employees during the holidays
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Orange does hereby grant the following:
Notwithstanding public safety and other emergency call -out services, City
facilities will be closed at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 24, 2013 through
Wednesday, January 1, 2014. The City will return to full service on
Thursday, January 2, 2014; and
The Orange Public Library & History Center will be closing effective 12:00
p.m. on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 and will re -open at 10:00 a.m. on
Thursday, January 2, 2014; and
The Taft and El Modena branch libraries will be closing effective 6:00 p.m.
on Saturday, December 21, 2013, and will reopen to regular operating hours
effective Thursday, January 2, 2014; and
City employees will be required to utilize their own accrued paid leave hours
i.e., vacation, compensatory time, holiday compensatory time, administrative
leave, TRP, and/or floating holiday) to cover the holiday closures on
Thursday, December 26, Monday, December 30, and Tuesday, December 31,
2013.
