Orange Plaza Inn Support by Ron Esparza via emailRon Esparza 7130 E Breighton Circle Orange, CA 92869 (714)615-0478 ron@ronesparza.com June 17, 2020 RE: Support for Orange Plaza Inn Dear Committee Members, My name is Ron Esparza and I am a lifetime resident of the City of Orange as well as a business owner since 2000. As a result, I feel like my perspective is unique and decided to take a few minutes to share it with you. I was initially concerned when I learned about the future departure of Shannon-Bryan Mortuary. This location has a long history in our community and a special meaning to me as we’ve had the services of many family members, including my mother’s at this physical location. However, after separating my emotional connection from the physical space, my next thought came from a longtime business owner and resident of the city. Are we going to fill the vacancy with another restaurant, bar or coffeehouse? If it was something other than the above, would it fit the unique ambience that our old town historic district provides? I felt this was a legitimate concern to all who take pride in our community but I also understand the economics of a successful/unsuccessful business and how that impacts the bottom line. I was pleasantly surprised when I was contacted by the applicant and even more so when learning the proposed plan of transforming the space into a boutique hotel. It’s an idea that never crossed my mind but I’m well aware of its value. As a State Farm Agent, I have the opportunity to write renters insurance for a plethora of students who attend Chapman University. I typically deal with “out of area” parents when securing these policies. As such, a relationship is established and I always inform them that I am a great resource of our city and to please contact me if for any questions. As a result, we often get calls from parents requesting a location to stay when visiting, that’s unique and close proximity to the university. Unfortunately, I have none to offer and refer them to, other than chain hotels outside our immediate area. As a result, I can personally tell you the Orange Plaza Inn proposed plan fills a current unfulfilled need. Equally important, they are locally focused and the overnight stays will provide an economic boost to our city as a result of the 10% transient occupancy tax. I support the Orange Plaza Inn and happy to make myself available for any additional dialogue. Sincerely, Ron Esparza
