1. SUBJECT
Purchase 50 Electronic Paramedic Care Report (EPCR) tablets from Verizon Wireless for
$32,022.
2. SUMMARY
This is a request that the City Council authorize the purchase of 50 iPad Pro 10.5 64 GB tablets
from Verizon Wireless for $32,022. Verizon Wireless is the vendor that the Fire Department
currently uses for cellular phone and tablet service.
3. RECOMMENDED ACTION
Authorize the purchase of 50 iPad Pro 10.5 64 GB tablets from Verizon for$32,022.
4. FISCAL IMPACT
The total expenditure for this purchase is $32,022 and will be funded in Electronic Paramedic
Care Report Replacement Program (20171) through Fire Facilities Fees (560).

7. DISCUSSION and BACKGROUND
The Fire Department uses iPads equipped with cellular service for gathering real-time patient
data in the field. The use of EPCR equipment was implemented on January 1, 2012 according to
the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) and Department of Health and
Human Services (HHS) National Standards and mandatory requirements. The iPad tablets that
are currently being used in the field will be three years old and have reached end of life.
The quote for these tablets came from Verizon Wireless as part of the National Association of
State Procurement Officials (NASPO) ValuePoint California Contract. Verizon Wireless is a
vendor that the City and Fire Department currently use for cellular phone and tablet service.
Along with the need for EPCR cellular connectivity, Verizon Wireless continues to provide
competitive pricing along with a high level of service.
