03.24 Purchase Dell Servers1. SUBJECT Purchase of five Dell R740 servers from Sidepath, Inc. 2. SUMMARY Four of the City's servers have reached end of life and are in need of replacement. In addition, the City is adding a server to support the City's GIS enterprise expansion. Two of the servers will be placed in the Police Department (PD) datacenter, and three, including the server dedicated to GIS, will be placed at the Civic Center datacenter. The four replacement servers will be virtual servers, which allows for several servers to be run on one machine. 3. RECOMMENDED ACTION 1) Approve the purchase of five Dell R740 servers from Sidepath, Inc. in the amount of $139,342,08. 2) Authorize the appropriation of $17,900 from Information Technology (790) unreserved fund balance to account number 790.1601.56033.20289 (GIS Server). 4. DISCUSSION and BACKGROUND The City's information technology staff is recommending the purchase of five (5) new Dell R740 servers to replace four end of service life HP Proliant DL380 G7 servers. One additional new server will be needed to accommodate our GIS enterprise expansion. This will replace two of the three VMware hosts at the PD datacenter and two of the four VMware host at Civic Center datacenter. Remaining VMware hosts are scheduled to be replaced in the next fiscal year (2019- 2020). The new Dell R740 series of servers will provide the following advantages: • Maximized application performance and acceleration with up to three 30OW acceleration cards in a 2U /2S platform. • Highly optimized air flow design which enabling tremendous configuration flexibility and industry leading energy efficiency. • Embedded SupportAssist reducing troubleshooting and downtime with embedded diagnostics and automated case creation. • Up to 4x performance improvement with common management tasks with iDRAC9's new dual -core ARM processor (compared with iDRAC8). • Proactive automated support embedded resolves issues up to 90% faster. • Leverage existing management consoles with easy integrations for VMware® vSphere®, and Microsoft® System Center. • Simplify deployment with OpenManage next - generation console and server profiles to fully configure and prep servers in rapid, scalable fashion. • Fully signed firmware updates; embedded trust only allows authenticated code to run. • Security lockdown that protects the server configuration and firmware (BIOS, iDRAC, & RAID) from malicious changes. Sidepath is a preferred partner with Dell /EMC for this region and as such provided the best price for procuring the hardware. Sidepath has provided pricing via a city approved cooperative agreement (NASPO# MNWNC -108, State Addendum #7- 15 -70 -34 -003.) The cost for the project is $139,342.08 and includes three servers for Civic datacenter and two servers for PD datacenter with three years of maintenance and support. 18. (S4000.S.4) A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Orange temporarily closing sections of Public Streets for approved Special Events. ACTION: Approved Resolution No. 11068 approving the closure of public streets during the times of approved special events; and approved closure of municipal parking lots and temporary suspension of neighborhood permit parking restrictions for certain events and dates occurring in the Fiscal Year 2018 -19.
