Monday, November 16, 2015; 3:15 p.m.
1. Call to Order / Pledge of Allegiance
1.1. Roll Call

2. Library Director’s Report
2.1. Monthly Report
2.1.1 As reported in August, Trace Witherford worked with the library to apply for a grant through the
Elks National Foundation to help combat literacy at OUSD Title 1 schools. The Elks have been
awarded a $10,000 grant and have begun planning programs in hopes to reach out to at least 400
families through OUSD. The program will be known as “The Reading Promise.” They plan to
hold 2 events at the library, one in May 2016 and another right before school starts. These will
feature performers, crafts, computer tutorials, library card registration with book and school
supply give-aways.
2.1.2 Library Page recruitment underway, as well as the Library Director position which will close on
11/30. Amy Harpster is the “Acting” Library Directo r until the position is filled. The Library Tech
Services Manager will be out on maternity leave for 4 months, she is due January 1.
2.1.3 The final author visit is Sunday 11/22 at 2pm with Robert Crais. The library is expecting 140 in
attendance.
2.1.4 The Sons of Italy donated $1,000 to the library for the purchase of books.
2.1.5 Barnes & Noble book fair scheduled for November 28 & 29.
2.2. Financial Report – the library is on track financially.
3. Board Reports
3.1. Report from Chair Collins – had a discussion with the Community Foundation at the Field of Valor event
to see how the Library Board of Trustees can assist with this event. Vice Chair Freeman suggested the
library have a display/program at the library to help promote this event. Chair Collins suggested a kids
corner at the event to allow adults time to walk through the flags, etc.
3.2. Report from Orange Public Library Foundation Liaison (Chair Collins)
3.2.1 The Foundation provided funds for the library to purchase a new public scanner .
3.2.2 It’s Your Estate and It’s Your Money – they would like any help getting these promoted.
3.2.3 Discussion about the gala, out of 725 on mailing list, only 143 attended the last event.
3.2.4 Chair Collins shared with the Foundation what exactly the Library Board of Trustees does for the
library. She invited the Foundation board to help with special events that the Trustees work on
behalf of the library.
3.3. Report from Friends of the Library Liaison (Marva Hitchcock)
3.3.1 The Friends made $713 in Amazon sales.
3.3.2 The Friends are looking for new board members.
3.3.3 The Christmas boutique booksale is all set for December 5 th.
3.3.4 The spring booksale is scheduled for March 4 & 5.
3.4. Reports from Trustees – Vice Chair Freeman suggested revisiting the Show Your Library Card vendors to
add new vendors and remove those who may not be actively participating.
Trustee Monsees thanked the board for her three years serving as a trustee and said what a pleasure it was
serving.
4. Old Business
4.1. Treats in the Streets recap
The location this year was perfect, being the first booth as you come up from Grand was ideal. Chair
Collins felt there was a logistical issue with the booth this year, however they were able to fix it but would
like to make sure there is better communication for next year. There were 9 volunteers working, which
may have been too many. The Board would also like caution tape to keep people from going into the booth
as a walkway.

4.2. Library Board By-laws Revision Approval – Motion to accept as amended and bring back to the next
meeting for final adoption.
