10.17.2016 Library Board of Trustees Minutes - ApprovedORANGE PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MINUTES Monday, October 17, 2016; 3:30 p.m. 1. Call to Order / Pledge of Allegiance (3:36pm) 1.1. Roll Call Present: Collins, Freeman, vanVoorst, Hitchcock Absent: Martinez 1.2. Approval of Meeting Minutes dated September 19, 2016 Motion: Freeman Second: Hitchcock Ayes: Collins, Freeman, vanVoorst, Hitchcock 2. Library Director’s Report 2.1. Monthly Report 2.1.1 Michael Connelly is next month, it’s a ticketed event. 2.1.2 The Library continues to process staff openings. 2.2. Financial Report - the Library is on track. 3. Board Reports 3.1. Report from Chair Collins – reminded the Board about the Field of Valor event and asked the Board if they wanted to assist with the event. 3.2. Report from Orange Public Library Foundation Liaison 3.2.1 Linda Cundiff stated that the National Charity League has volunteered to sort seeds for the Seed Library. Since its inception, patrons have “borrowed” over 2,000 packets of seeds. 3.2.2 Three documentaries have been selected for the film festival this winter: 1) How to Cook your Life, 2) Being Mortal, and 3) More Than Honey. 3.3. Report from Friends of the Library Liaison 3.3.1 It’s National Friends week this week. 3.3.2 The Friends have a fundraiser set at Da Bianca Trattoria in Orange on Tuesday 10/18/16. 3.3.3 The September book sale made $1,066. 3.3.4 Internet sales went from 5 staffers to 1; they made $765 in September. Total Internet sales from January through September is $7,317.57. 3.4. Reports from Trustees 3.4.1 Vice Chair Freeman thanked the Library Director for getting the curbs painted at the two entrances to the Library. He also thanked staff for putting together the brief history to assist them when giving Library tours. VC Freeman suggested adding more details on the Library’s history, and perhaps the Carnegie Hall building. 4. Old Business 4.1. Literacy Program Update 4.1.1 The library has submitted a claim form to receive the funding from the State. Director Curtis will be hiring a consultant to assist with the process of this new program. 4.2. Treats in the Streets 4.2.1 Chair Collins purchased candy for the event. Trustee vanVoorst will provide volunteer assistance through Kiwanis. 5. New Business (none) 6.
