MINUTES
Monday, December 18, 2017; 3:30 p.m.
1. Call to Order / Pledge of Allegiance (3:33pm)
1.1. Roll Call
Present: Steve Freeman, Patti vanVoorst, Rebecca Martinez, Marva Hitchcock
Absent: Nancy Collins
1.2. Approval of Meeting Minutes dated November 20, 2017

2. Library Director’s Report
2.1. Library Updates
2.1.1 Keisha Loidolt is being promoted to Librarian III in Adult Services, she was selected from an open
recruitment.
2.1.2 SLS (Santiago Library System) is implementing a $200 membership fee effective next fiscal year.
2.1.3 New public copiers coming to the Library.
2.1.4 The Literacy coordinator created a two-sided business card with information for both learners and
tutors.
2.2. Financial Report – Library is right on track.
3. Board Reports
3.1. Report from Orange Public Library Foundation Liaison
3.1.1 No meeting this month. The Board is working on their Strate gic Plan.
3.2. Report from Friends of the Library Liaison
3.2.1 Elections for President and Treasurer are taking place in January, the incumbents are expected to
retain their positions.
3.2.2 The December book sale made $560. The next book sale is March 9.
3.2.3 They currently have 65 volunteers.
3.2.4 Next fundraiser will be at Ruby’s on January 31st.
3.2.5 Total of 66 coupons redeemed: 55 OPL sign ups, 8 from Halloween, 2 from Third of July, and 1
from Friend’s membership.
3.2.6 Internet sales for the year: $7,000.
3.3. Report from Chair Freeman
3.3.1 Reminder that the Library is closed on 1/15/18 – staff having their in-service meeting.
3.3.2 Nancy Collins has resigned from the Board, she is moving out of Orange, which is a requirement
for serving on the Board.
3.4. Reports from Trustees
3.4.1 Trustee Hitchcock asked about the Barnes & Noble fundraiser event. The Library collected $35
received in donations for on-site gift wrapping. The total to come from B&N will not be known
for a few weeks.
3.4.2 Trustee Martinez informed the Board that the School District plans to include the purchase of text
books for the Homework Centers in their next year’s budget request. Trustee Martinez suggested
that perhaps the Friends and Foundation could help with these purchases.
3.4.3 Trustee Martinez said she will talk to OUSD about how to gain access to their portal offsite in
order to better assist the kids in the homework centers.

7. Public Comment (none)
Linda Cundiff, the Executive Director of the Library Foundation, informed the Board that she is collecting
information about Maxine Huber for the Library’s Local History collection. She also said that they held the
final installment of STEAM for Teens this past Saturday and with the donation from Edison, they were able
to purchase 3 laptops for the drawing.
8. Adjournment (4:25pm) The January 22, 2018 meeting will be held at the El Modena Branch.
