MINUTES
Monday, June 19, 2017; 3:30 p.m.
1. Call to Order / Pledge of Allegiance (3:35 p.m.)
1.1. Roll Call
Present: Collins, Freeman, vanVoorst, Martinez
Absent: Hitchcock
1.2. Approval of Meeting Minutes dated May 15, 2017
No quorum, tabled until next month’s meeting
2. Library Director’s Report (by Amy Harpster)
2.1. Admin Staff Presentation - Ms. Harpster went over the Administration Division’s staff and
duties. She discussed Admin goals, projects, and the budget. Ms. Anderson Camba provided
information on library volunteers and the meeting rooms. Ms. Bondurant provided information
on the Adult Literacy Services, including all the new resources available to both tutors and
students, and all of her marketing efforts.
2.2. Adult Literacy Updates - As reported by Ms. Bondurant, there are now 8 active students matched
with tutors. There are 91 residents interested in tutoring, and 16 have completed training.
2.3. Personnel Updates - The Library currently has 5 Library Page openings, testing already took
place and interviews begin next week. The Senior Library Manager position will start interviews
next week. The Library Assistant position is also moving forward with second interviews.
2.4. Financial Report – the Library is right on track for end of the fiscal year.
3. Board Reports
3.1. Report from Chair Collins – Chair Collins asked the Trustees to each pick 4 libraries and review
their websites to see what they are doing and report about it next month. She would like them to
email her with the libraries they will be researching to avoid duplicates.
3.2. Report from Orange Public Library Foundation Liaison – no report, they did not meet.
3.3. Report from Friends of the Library Liaison – Vice Chair Freeman reported in Trustee
Hitchcock’s absence:
3.3.1 Internet sales for May $540.93
3.3.2 Fundraiser at Islands on 6/27 from 4pm until closing (proceeds benefit the Library)
3.3.3 Summer book sale in the Children’s Courtyard on 7/8 from 11am-2pm
3.3.4 Donating paperbacks to Centinela State Prison’s Library Program
3.4. Reports from Trustees – none.
4. Old Business
4.1. 3rd of July & National Night Out events (NNO)
4.1.1 3rd of July – Ms. Erisken went over the prizes and it was agreed there are plenty for this
year. Chair Collins will purchase candy. Trustee vanVoorst will provide 4-5 volunteers,
and Tim Collins will also help. The Board requested 6 wristbands for the volunteers and
3 vehicle field passes to drop off equipment.
4.1.2 NNO - Chair Collins reported that NNO moved to The Home Depot parking lot on
Tustin. The Board will discuss this further next month.
4.2. Serving with a Purpose - Trustee Martinez said it was a really good event, and they all liked the
venue.
