Monday, May 15, 2017; 3:30 p.m.
1. Call to Order / Pledge of Allegiance
1.1. Roll Call

1.2. Approval of Meeting Minutes dated April 17, 2017

2. Library Director’s Report
2.1. The Orange Public Library’s History Center has been nominated for the Old Towne Preservation
Association’s (OTPA) “Spirit of Old Towne” award. This award is given to a person or group
who has contributed to the mission of OTPA. Lizeth Ramirez will attend the ceremony on May
21st.
2.2. Ms. Ramirez worked with the Society of Hispanic Historical and Ancestral Research (SHHAR)
to add their genealogy books to El Modena’s reference collection. The items will be on loan
through April 2019.
2.3. Adult Literacy Updates
Brandi Bondurant, the Adult Literacy Coordinator, is doing a great job. Two banners advertising
Adult Literacy services have been installed in the Plaza (one on Chapman and the other on
Grand). Ms. Bondurant has already received two calls based on the banners.
2.4. Personnel Updates
The Library continues to recruit for open positions, including Children’s & Teen Manager, Page,
Clerk, and Library Assistant.
2.5. Financial Report
The Library is on track and wrapping up fiscal year expenditure plans.
3. Board Reports
3.1. Report from Chair Collins – not present.
3.2. Report from Orange Public Library Foundation (Linda Cundiff reported)
The Gala netted just over $50,000. The Summer Film Fest is set, and runs from June 22-July 27.
3.3. Report from Friends of the Library Liaison
3.3.1 The Friends agreed to provide $600 for treats and prizes for 3rd of July, National Night
Out, and Treats in the Streets.
3.3.2 58 Free Book Coupons redeemed: 40 Friends, 15 I Love the Library, and 2 memberships.
3.3.3 Friends fundraiser at Islands on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.
3.3.4 Internet sales $714, YTD $2,497.
3.4. Reports from Trustees
Trustee vanVoorst stated she assisted with the Bad Art program and how much fun it was. She
said the participants want another one.
4. Old Business
4.1. Serving with a Purpose recap
The Board agreed it was a great workshop this year. Trustee vanVoorst stated that the OPL
Board is very innovative compared to other Boards, and that they got so many questions from
other members. Vice Chair Freeman would like to continue this item to next month.

4.2. Foundation Gala recap/comments
The Board agreed the event was very nice, and appreciated all the efforts that went into the
fundraising gala.
5. New Business
5.1. Third of July/National Night Out planning
A list of existing prize items will be provided at the next meeting, these can be used at both
events. The Board will determine schedules at the next meeting.
5.2. Library’s 10th Anniversary, input from Board
Vice Chair Freeman stated he felt the event could have used more advertised, he said he
searched all the papers and didn’t see anything about it. Trustee vanVoorst stated that the
patrons loved the tour, except it took longer than expected because of all the great questions. She
suggests the library add more info to the self-guided tour, and perhaps offer tours on a regular
basis. Vice Chair Freeman stated that the Board would be interested in giving tours if needed.
