MINUTES
Monday, April 17, 2017; 3:30 p.m.
1. Call to Order / Pledge of Allegiance (3:33pm)
1.1. Roll Call
Present: Collins, Freeman, vanVoorst, Hitchcock, Martinez
1.2. Approval of Meeting Minutes dated March 20, 2017

2. Library Director’s Report
2.1. Adult Literacy
Brandi Bondurant started today; she is the Literacy Coordinator who will take over the program. Jerry was
hired to get the program started and the Library hopes to keep him on to continue to assist as needed.
2.2. Welcome Desk
The Welcome Desk is officially in place (moved the Teen Desk up and is now called the Welcome Desk).
The electrical/network drop will be moved from outside of the desk, to a location behind the desk.
2.3. Personnel updates
The Children’s Manager is retiring on 4/20/17, and a part-time library assistant will be retiring on 4/30/17.
The Library hopes to recruit for these positions in the near future.
2.4. 3D Printer
The Library has a 3D printer on loan from SLS and invited the Board to check it out. Staff will be trying it
out over the next 5 weeks, then it gets shipped off to the next Library.
2.5. Financial Report
The Library is on target for this time of year.
3. Board Reports
3.1. Report from Chair Collins
Chair Collins took the literacy tutor training course with Jerry and said it was the best training she’s had.
3.2. Report from Orange Public Library Foundation Liaison Chair Collins
The Foundation gala is this upcoming Sunday at 3pm. The Board will be in attendance.
3.3. Report from Friends of the Library Liaison Trustee Hitchcock
3.3.1 The Friends is having an all-day fund raiser on Wednesday, June 7th at Islands on Tustin.
3.3.2 Friends brought in $783 from Internet sales for March (three books were over $70/each). Year-to-
Date total is $1,762.
3.3.3 Friends is collecting “Books for Crooks” to take to the Chino prison.
3.4. Reports from Trustees
3.4.1 Chair Collins and Trustee Martinez will not be in attendance at the May 15th Board meeting.
3.4.2 Trustee Martinez spoke with OUSD and was informed that it’s up to each school principal to
approve flyers to be posted or distributed at their school; OUSD does not get involved .
4. Old Business
4.1. Serving with a Purpose (confirmed)
The Board agreed to meet at Taft at 7am and carpool to the conference on May 4.
