Monday, March 20, 2017; 3:30 p.m.
1. Call to Order / Pledge of Allegiance (3:34pm)
1.1. Roll Call

Absent: Hitchcock
1.2. Approval of Meeting Minutes dated February 27, 2017

2. Library Director’s Report
2.1. Presentation: Children’s & Teen Services
2.1.1 Children’s & Teen Services Manager Irma Morales presented what’s going on in
Children’s and how things are done.
2.2. Monthly Report
2.2.1 Ten Year Celebration is on 4/22.
2.2.2 Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast is on 4/29.
2.2.3 The self-check cabinets were moved to make room for new self-check equipment. The
next step is to move the Teen Desk to where the Welcome Desk is located.
2.2.4 The Library’s ComiCon event is on 5/20.
2.3. Financial Report – finances are right on target.
3. Board Reports
3.1. Report from Chair Collins – no new reports.
3.2. Report from Orange Public Library Foundation Liaison Chair Collins
3.2.1 The four “free little libraries” are doing well. Friends just donated 4 boxes of books.
3.2.2 More Than Honey program was well attended with over 40 attendees.
3.2.3 The Seed Exchange is doing well with over 3,000 packets given out in a year.
3.3. Report from Friends of the Library Liaison given by Chair Collins
3.3.1 Ruby’s fundraiser from 1/25/17 brought in $139.
3.3.2 The book sale brought in $680, and another $440 from bookstore sales during the 2 day
book sale, as well as new and renewed memberships brought in another $100.
3.3.3 The next book sale is scheduled for 9/14 & 15.
3.3.4 55 book coupons were redeemed, 54 from new library patrons, and 1 new membership.
3.4. Reports from Trustees (none)
4. Old Business
4.1. Literacy Program update
4.1.1 The first round of interviews for Literacy Coordinator is on 5/22, with five candidates.
4.1.2 Flyers have been created and Jerry is working to get them distributed at all local schools.
4.2. Gala Basket for Silent Auction
4.2.1 The Board continues to work on getting items for their basket.
4.3. Open Houses
4.3.1 The Board selected the event dates they are available to assist library staff. Chair Collins
would like to see more outreach in East and West Orange.
4.3.2 Trustee Martinez stated she would look at the District’s schedule for other open house
events.

5. New Business
5.1. Serving with a Purpose Conference (May 4, Rancho Cucamonga)
5.1.1 It was decided that Chair Collins, Vice Trustee Freeman, Trustee Martinez and vanVoorst
will attend. Trustee Hitchcock will be out of town at that time. The Library will pay for
their attendance.
