MINUTES
Monday, June 18, 2018; 3:30 p.m.
1. Call to Order / Pledge of Allegiance (3:34pm)
1.1. Roll Call
Present: Freeman, Martinez, vanVoorst, Hitchcock, Calvert
Absent: none
1.2. Approval of Meeting Minutes dates April 16,2018

1.3. Approval of Meeting Minutes dated May 21, 2018

2. Library Director’s Report
2.1. Library Updates
2.1.1. The Library has two positions open: 20hr Library Assistant and 40hr Library Assistant.
2.1.2. The candidate for the Volunteer Coordinator position is still in the background process.
2.1.3. The program “Lunch at the Library” starts today at Taft.
2.1.4. Summer Reading Club kicked of this past Saturday.
2.1.5. The Library is making changes to the information wall – adding a TV monitor that will
display upcoming events.
2.1.6. The public Wi-Fi speed has increased thanks to the CENIC project.
2.1.7. The budget was approved by Council and included the new PT Literacy Assistant position.
2.1.8. The Sons of Italy invited the Director to attend a dinner to accept a donation check to the
Library.
2.2. Financial Report – Library is right on track for the end of the fiscal year.
3. Board Reports
3.1. Report from Orange Public Library Foundation Liaison
3.1.1. The Foundation did not get the $24,000 grant from Comcast for the STEAM program.
3.1.2. The Foundation is working on their mission and by-laws.
3.2. Report from Friends of the Library Liaison
3.2.1. Friend’s board member Courtney attended the meeting and said that they are working on
setting new goals.
3.2.2. Coupons redeemed 49 Friends, 3 open house, and $5 in bookstore bucks.
3.2.3. There was a 22% increase in bookstore purchases in the last 6 months.
3.2.4. The Friends 60th Jubilee is next year, so they are working on a celebration.
3.2.5. Internet sales for the month $941.
3.3. Report from Chair Freeman (no items to report)
3.4. Reports from Trustees
3.4.1. Trustee vanVoorst reported that the Open House she attended went very well, with many
people in attendance.

4. New Business
5.1. OPLF Opportunity Drawing at Third of July
Linda Cundiff with the Foundation would like to share the booth at Third of July so they can sell
raffle tickets for Disneyland.
Motion: Martinez – Allow OPLF to share the booth

5. Old Business
5.1. Third of July Preparations/Planning
5.1.1. Patriotic prizes are ready, along with free book coupons for Friends.
5.1.2. Community Services is providing the tables, chairs, canopy weights, and fire extinguisher.
5.1.3. Logistics were discussed and agreed upon.
5.2. National Night Out (8/7/18) Preparations/Planning
5.2.1. Logistics will be set at the next meeting.
5.3. By-Laws Review Committee Updates
5.3.1. The Committee reviewed the by-laws and have no updates to suggest at this time.
6. Board Annual Meeting
6.1. FY18/19 Board Meeting Schedule.

6.2. Board Goals & Vision – It was decided to revisit the goals later, but to update the Mission Statement
to read, “The Board of Trustees works in partnership with library staff and support groups to
represent, inform, educate and enrich the Orange community, and ensure the preservation of local
history.”

Motion: Trustee Hitchcock nominated Trustee Freeman as Chair.
