10-15-18 EICHLERS Attachment 6 - Public Comments1 Marissa Moshier From:cathy burns <cgrayburns@yahoo.com> Sent:Wednesday, September 19, 2018 10:55 AM To:Marissa Moshier Subject:Eichler home additions I understand there is some controversy over the building of second stories on the Eichler homes. The construction of second stories would undermine the look, livability and property values of these properties. It certainly alters the original intent of the architects who designed these unique homes. Please include a ban of second story additions to these very special neighborhoods. I have been a resident in the Fairhaven tractor 2 years and a previous resident in the Fairhills tract for 25 years. I do not think any second stories should be added to Eichler properties even if they cannot be seen from the street. This is the single most important standard I would like to see before the official designation. Thank you. Amanda Clark 3801 E. We live on one of the large lots (one third of an acre). I think this is one of the places where the committee thinks it might be feasible to have an addition with two stories. But it’s not. A two story addition would be seen from the street and my neighbors would lose all their privacy both in their yards and the back half of the house. Thank you. Paula Butler 533 S. Clearly a tremendous amount of work went into this proposal. It is very thorough. I am going to keep this brief. I am sure that you will receive a tremendous amount of feedback. Honestly this is way too detailed and way too controlling. It is far from what we were told this proposal was going to be about. There is no fee structure that the city has set up for a MDR or DRC. You are driving up the costs of basic repairs. There is no way I plan on going to the city for every item on the MDR. I am sorry but this is too big brother. I can see why the city is so eager to Implement it is a money maker for them. You actually think someone is going to get approval to paint on unpainted surfaces? For those people who were on this committee this is Big Government at its finest. Shame on you you are one of them. This document is so controlling that you are going to drive the value of the homes down. People who purchase homes do not want their neighbors stalking them. They want creative leeway. They attract creative people. These homes have a following of “purists” who love the homes exactly how they were built. It makes them self-anointed important homeowners. Which they are not. These “purists” have a habit of patrolling the neighborhood. We have one in the Fairhills tract, she does no upgrades to her home, she gets in her car circles the neighborhood and either confronts people about what they are doing or reports them to Code Enforcement. It will create an environment of discord in the neighborhood worse than it already is. This document will only make that worse because it gives the “purists” power. 2 The simple truth is we have run down homes in all the neighborhoods. We have trees that are overgrown and front yards covered in weeds. The city has never been able to control the houses in the neighborhood who can’t meet basic city ordinances let alone this document. I think your efforts should be in helping these homes clean up their yards. I honestly am not impressed with the “purists” in the neighborhood. I find them tedious. Any person on the City Council who approves this change will not have my vote. I will not abide to the majority of this proposal. It is very disappointing that we were misled.
