7. DISCUSSION and BACKGROUND
This request is from Mr. Jose Cruz and Ms. Renate Quintin of Furniture City at 615 West Katella
Avenue. The reason for the request is to provide short-term parking in front of their business for
their customers. There are a number of businesses in the area and employees appear to be
utilizing the on- street parking throughout the business day, starting early in the morning. Mr.
Cruz indicated that there is not any off - street parking for his business and the parked vehicles are
having a detrimental effect for his customers.
Analysis
Field observation indicates that vehicles frequently park in front of the proponents store for long
periods of time and often within 15 feet of the fire hydrant at the easterly end of subject property.
There is space for two vehicles to park in front of 615 East Katella Avenue, which could provide
some short-term customer parking.
Recommendation
Based on the field review, staff finds that the request has merit and recommends the Traffic
Commission approve the installation of 40 feet of green curb in front of 615 East Katella Avenue
and another 40 feet of red curb in front of the fire hydrant at the easterly property line between
607 and 615 East Katella Avenue as illustrated in the attached site sketch.
The proponent and all residents and businesses within 300 feet of the study area were notified of
the Traffic Commission Meeting.
