Accept and appropriate an $11,025 grant from the Community Foundation of Orange (CFO) to the
Orange Police Department canine program for the purchase of a new police service dog.
2. SUMMARY
The Community Foundation of Orange has awarded the Police Department $11,025 from its
Community Grant Program to support the purchase of a new police service dog. The purchase of
this service dog will allow the Department to maintain a three -team force serving the residents and
businesses in the City of Orange.
3. RECOMMENDATION
1. Approve agreement with CFO in an amount not to exceed $11,025 and authorize the City
Manager to execute the agreement of behalf of the City; and
2. Accept into the City's revenue budget an $11,025 grant from CFO, into revenue account
number 100.4021.48390.12307, General Fund — K9 /SWAT Donations; and
3. Authorize the appropriation of $11,025 into expenditure account number
100.4021.55510.12307, General Fund — K9 /SWAT Donations for the purchase of a new police
service dog from Adlerhorst International, LLC.

provide crime prevention programs. These resources should be provided prior to anticipated
needs.
7. DISCUSSION and BACKGROUND
The Community Foundation of Orange has selected the Orange Police Department canine program
to receive an $11,025 grant for the purchase of a new police service dog. The foundation's goal
is to support the work of a wide variety of organizations that serve the community. Similarly, the
Police Department canine program serves residents and businesses here in the City of Orange. The
Department currently has two canine teams, Officer Jude King and K9 Griffin and Officer Damon
Allen and K9 Bosco. This contribution will enable the Department to maintain a three -team force
serving residents and businesses in the City of Orange.
The Police Department would like to accept an $11,025 grant for the purchase of a police canine
service dog. A suitable service dog has been found through Adlerhorst International, LLC for a
total cost of $11,025. Grant funds are to be expended by September 30, 2018.
