SR - - DONATION FOR LIBRARY MATERIALS1. SUBJECT Request to accept and appropriate into the City's revenue budget a $32,000 donation from the Friends of Orange Public Library (FOPL). 2. SUMMARY This $32,000 donation will be used to purchase items as requested by the Library's Management Team for enhanced public service. Acceptance of the revenue and its appropriation into the FYI 6/17 budget are requested. 13. RECOMMENDATION 1) Accept into the City's revenue budget a $32,000 donation from FOPL, into revenue account number 100.2001.48390.19990 (Library Friends Donations). 2) Authorize the appropriation of $32,000 into the following expenditure account numbers: 100.2001.53011.19990 - FOPL (Employee Recognition Program) $2,000 100.2001.53301.19990 - FOPL (Book Budget) $23,800 100.2004.51423.19990 — FOPL (Maintenance & Equipment) $700 100.2016.53340.19990 - FOPL (Craft supplies - Adult) $5,000 100.2017.53340.19990 - FOPL (Craft supplies - Children & Teen) 500 $32,000 14. FISCAL IMPACT Upon appropriation of this donation, the Library budget will increase by $32,000. 5. STRATEGIC PLAN GOAL(S) 3. Enhance and promote quality of life in the community e. Develop and strengthen collaborative partnerships to enhance and promote quality of life programs, projects and services. ITEM 1 10/11/16 6. GENERAL PLAN IMPLEMENTATION 5.0 Meet the educational, cultural, civic, information, recreation, business, and life -long learning needs of residents through the provision of library resources. 5.4 Promote collaborations among community groups, educational institutions and the Public Library to enhance sharing of information, resources, and financial support for library facilities, services and programs. 7. DISCUSSION and BACKGROUND FOPL is donating $32,000 to meet various Library needs. The generous dollar amount coming from FOPL includes: • $23,800 to purchase DVDs for children, teens, and adults, as well as large print books for adults, updating and expanding the branch collections in particular. • $1,000 to purchase supplies for the annual Summer Reading Club for children, teens, and adults. Funds will purchase reading incentives, program supplies, etc. for approximately 3,000 patrons. • $700 for Volunteer Tracking Software. The Library's Volunteer Coordinator will use the software to help manage statistics, schedules, and timesheets for over 400 volunteers. • $2,000 to fund the library's Employee Appreciation Program. Funds will be used to reward and motivate staff for their hard work and dedication to the library throughout the year. • $2,500 to revitalize the Library's literacy program efforts. Funds would go toward improving the Literacy Office at Orange Public Library & History Center, with new books and materials, computer equipment, etc. • $2,000 to create a new Library Comic Convention. Funds will be used toward a family program highlighting the Library's popular graphic novels collections along with guest speakers, authors /illustrators, character meet - and - greets, and giveaways. The Orange Public Library will publicize FOPL's contributions in a variety of ways, including bookplates where appropriate, and credit for programming support on the Library's website, flyers, and calendars. 8.
