1. SUBJECT
Purchase Medical Supplies from Life - Assist, Inc. through a cooperative purchasing agreement.
2. SUMMARY
The Fire Department purchases medical supplies from several vendors, Life - Assist, Inc. is one of
those vendors. On July 3, 2013, Life - Assist was awarded a pricing contract with the City of
Ontario; the contract period is 1 year with an option for 3 additional 1 -year extensions. Life -
Assist, Inc. has agreed to extend this pricing under a cooperative purchasing agreement to the
City of Orange for the duration of the contract period ending June 30, 2017.
3. RECOMMENDED ACTION
Authorize the Fire Department to purchase medical supplies from Life Assist in an amount not to
exceed $187,000 for fiscal year 2016 -17.
4. FISCAL IMPACT
Upon adoption of the FY 2016 -17 budget funding will be available to cover the cost of medical
supplies from Life Assist as follows:

6. GENERAL PLAN IMPLEMENTATION
Public Safety Goal 6.0: Provide public safety services of the highest quality.
Policy 6.7: Maintain and update the City's Multi- Hazard Functional Plan as needed, and ensure
ongoing consistency between the General Plan and the Multi- Hazard Functional Plan and Fire
Department Strategic Deployment Plan.
7. DISCUSSION and BACKGROUND
The Fire Department purchases medical supplies from a variety of specialized vendors. Life -
Assist, Inc. is one of those vendors that provide the greatest selection of products and best
customer service. Life - Assist has agreed to extend the contract pricing that was negotiated with
the City of Ontario to the City of Orange. This bid ensures competitive pricing in addition to
good customer service.
It is recommended that the City Council continue to approve the purchase of medical supplies
from Life - Assist, Inc. through a cooperative purchasing agreement ending June 30, 2017.
