Designation of Alternate Board Member for the Metro Cities Fire Authority
2. SUMMARY:
The Metro Cities Fire Authority, which the City of Orange is a member, provides joint fire
dispatching services for eight member agencies. The Authority is governed by a Board of
Directors that is comprised of one voting member and alternate from each member city.
3. RECOMMENDATION:
Designate the Deputy City Manager as the City's alternate voting board member to the Metro
Cities Fire Authority.

7. DISCUSSION and BACKGROUND
The City is a member of the Metro Cities Fire Authority for joint fire communications. The
organization is governed by a Board of Directors which includes one voting delegate from each
participating city. For five of the member cities in the Authority including Orange, the City
Manager is the City's voting delegate. The other three cities have designated the Fire Chief as the
voting delegate In addition, each member city is to designate an alternate voting delegate. In
all of the member cities, the designated alternate voting delegates are senior City Manager Office
staff.
Currently, the Assistant City Manager position is the alternate voting delegate. With the
appointment of the Assistant City Manager to the Interim City Manager position, the City
Council must select a new alternate voting delegate. As such, it is recommended that the Deputy
City Manager position (being filled by Irma Hernandez) become the alternate voting delegate.
The Board meets quarterly.
