DISCUSSION and BACKGROUND The Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle), will award grants to Public entities involved in activities and applications that result in reduced landfill disposal or stockpiling of waste tires. The Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis, based on the amount of Rubberized Asphalt Concrete (R.A.C.) being used and the differential cost of using R.A.C. in lieu of conventional asphalt concrete. Under CalRecycle grant guidelines, candidate projects must utilize a minimum of 3,500 tons of R.A.C. A combination of several rehabilitation projects in the City's Capital Improvement Program will meet this minimum tonnage project criterion. Approximately 15,260 tons of R.A.C. will be used for the rehabilitation of portions of Tustin Street, Katella Avenue, Meats Avenue, Glassell Street, Eckhoff Street, and Batavia Street. Staff recommends applying for competitive Rubberized Pavement grant funds for these projects. The City is requesting $106,820 for these projects through the Grant Program. 8.
