Request to close the Orange Public Library & History Center and the 2 branches (Taft & Elmo) as
follows:
Main Library: Friday, August 29 at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 30 all day for the Orange
International Street Fair.
All Branches: Wednesday, November 26 at 6:00 p.m. for Thanksgiving.

Closure of Orange Public Libraries to accommodate various events as indicated in Item 1.

Approve closures of the Orange Public Libraries for specific dates & times as indicated above.
4. FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact to temporary closure of the Orange Public Library facilities.

business, and life -long learning needs of residents through the provision of library resources.

Policy 5.1: Continue to expand, coordinate and modernize the City's public library system,
ensuring that it becomes the premier information and learning resource for the City to meet the
needs of Orange's growing and diverse population.
7. DISCUSSION and BACKGROUND
Because of the Orange International Street Fair that takes place every Labor Day weekend, the library
closes early on Friday and all day on Saturday. The Library parking lot is used as a fundraising lot and
therefore it is not feasible to remain open. Both Taft and Elmo maintain their regular business hours
during this time. Full -time staff scheduled to work Saturday will take vacation time or work at Taft or
El Modena branch library instead.
Every year, Orange Public Library facilities have closed early on Wednesday evening prior to the
Thanksgiving Day holiday, due to limited public use.
