1. SUBJECT
Purchase firefighter safety gear in excess of $30,000 from L.N. Curtis & Sons.
2. SUMMARY
The Fire Department purchases approximately $80,000 annually worth of safety gear from L.N.
Curtis & Sons. This gear will be used to replace expiring safety gear that is currently in use by
firefighting personnel. The Fire Department buys safety gear exclusively from L.N. Curtis &
Sons under the General Services Administration (GSA) contract.
3. RECOMMENDED ACTION
Authorize the purchase of firefighter safety gear from L.N.Curtis & Sons for a total of $80,000 in
Fiscal Year 2014 -15.
4. FISCAL IMPACT
Funds are budgeted and available to cover the cost of firefighter safety gear as follows:

6. GENERAL PLAN IMPLEMENTATION
Public Safety Goal 6.0: Provide public safety services of the highest quality.
Policy 6.7: Maintain and update the City's Multi- Hazard Functional Plan as needed, and ensure
ongoing consistency between the General Plan and the Multi- Hazard Functional Plan and Fire
Department Strategic Deployment Plan.
7. DISCUSSION and BACKGROUND
The Fire Department receives special pricing on firefighter safety gear by purchasing under the
GSA contract through L.N. Curtis & Sons. The Fire Department must purchase from L.N. Curtis
& Sons in order to maintain its current safety gear specification from Globe Manufacturing
Company. L.N. Curtis & Sons is the Globe factory authorized vendor for the Southern
California Region.
