SUBJECT Bid No. 134-30; Fire Hydrant Painting Services; Approval of specifications and authorization to advertise for bids. 2. SUMMARY Specifications have been completed for the Fire Hydrant Painting Services. This project is ready to be advertised for bids. The initial one year cost estimate is $125,000.00. 3. RECOMMENDED ACTION Approve Specifications and authorize advertising for bids for the Fire Hydrant Painting Services. 4. Economic Development Element Goal 6.0: Provide sufficient infrastructure to support anticipated economic development and growth. Policy 6.1: Provide public improvements to support commercial, industrial and institutional uses. 7. DISCUSSION and BACKGROUND The Water Division provides maintenance services to over 4,000 fire hydrants throughout the City. The work includes cleaning, painting, and vegetation trimming. It is the goal of the Water Division to service all fire hydrants within a 4 -year cycle. Due to staffing limitations, the Water Division wants to contract out this routine maintenance. It is estimated that 1,100 fire hydrants will need to be serviced each year. Work items will include traffic control, removal of grease, oil, loose paint, dirt, and other foreign material, painting, and vegetation trimming. The scope of work includes all labor, equipment, and materials necessary to complete the fire hydrant painting. The cost estimate for a one year service is $125,000.00. The term of the contract is for one year with an option to renew the contract annually for a total of three (3) more years if the City is satisfied with the level of service from the contractor. 8.
