SUBJECT Request to accept and appropriate into the City's revenue budget a $29,950 donation from The Friends of the Orange Public Library (FOPL). 2. SUMMARY This $29,950 donation will be used to purchase items as requested by the Library's Management Team for enhanced public service. Acceptance of the revenue and its appropriation into the FY13 /14 budget is requested. 3. RECOMMENDATION 1) Accept into the City's revenue budget a $29,950 donation from FOPL, into revenue account number 100.2001.48390.19990 (Friends of the Library Donations). 2) Authorize the appropriation of $29,950 into the following expenditure account numbers: 100.2001.53301.19990 - FOPL (Book budget) $19,800 100.2004.53345.19990 - FOPL (Book processing) $2,700 100.2016.51761.19990 - FOPL (Printing & binding) $1,200 100.2016.53340.19990 - FOPL (Craft supplies - Adult) $500 100.2017.53340.19990 - FOPL (Craft supplies- Children & Teen) $5,750 $29,950 4. FISCAL IMPACT Upon appropriation of this donation, the Library budget will increase by $29,950. 5. STRATEGIC PLAN GOAL(S) 3. Enhance and promote quality of life in the community e. Develop and strengthen collaborative partnerships to enhance and promote quality of life programs, projects and services. ITEM 3. 1 1 05/13/14 6. GENERAL PLAN IMPLEMENTATION 5.0 Meet the educational, cultural, civic, information, recreation, business, and life -long learning needs of residents through the provision of library resources. 5.4 Promote collaborations among community groups, educational institutions and the Public Library to enhance sharing of information, resources, and financial support for library facilities, services and programs. 7. DISCUSSION and BACKGROUND FOPL is donating $29,950 to meet various Library needs. The generous dollar amounts coming from the The Friends of the Orange Public Library include: • $19,800 to purchase fiction and nonfiction books for children, teens, and adults at all 3 libraries, as well as to renew the library's electronic resources: Wowbrary and Rocket Languages. The demand for new books has increased due to expanded library hours and the Library's weekly Wowbrary email to patrons. • $6,700 for the annual Summer Reading Club for the 3 libraries. Funds will purchase banners and reading incentives for approximately 3,000 patrons. • $2,700 to purchase DVD security cases. The library checks out thousands of DVDs to its patrons every month. • $750 to fund the Library's Teen Volunteer Recognition Program. Funds will be used to reward and motivate volunteers for their hard work and dedication throughout the year at all 3 libraries. The Orange Public Library will publicize FOPL's contributions in a variety of ways, including bookplates where appropriate, and credit for Summer Reading Club support on the Library's website, flyers, and calendars. 8.
