SUBJECT Request to accept and appropriate into the City's revenue budget a $9,848.84 donation from the Orange Public Library Foundation (OPLF). 2. SUMMARY This $9,848.84 donation will be used to purchase items as requested by the Library's Management Team for enhanced public service. Acceptance of the revenue and its appropriation into the FYI 3/14 budget are requested. 3. RECOMMENDATION 1) Accept into the City's revenue budget a $9,848.84 donation from OPLF, into revenue account number 100.2001.48390.19322 (Library Foundation Donations). 2) Authorize the appropriation of $9,848.84 into the following expenditure account numbers: 3) 100.2001.53301.19322 - OPLF (Book Budget) $500.00 100.2004.55131.19322 - OPLF (Furniture, Machinery, Equip) $8,143.84 100.2017.51670.19322 - OPLF (Other professional & consulting services) $450.00 100.2017.55131.19322 - OPLF (Furniture, Machinery, Equip) $755.00 $9,848.84 4. FISCAL IMPACT Upon appropriation of this donation, the Library budget will increase by $9,848.84. 5. STRATEGIC PLAN GOAL(S) 3. Enhance and promote quality of life in the community e. Develop and strengthen collaborative partnerships to enhance and promote quality of life programs, projects and services. ITEM // 1 03/11/14 6. GENERAL PLAN IMPLEMENTATION 5.0 Meet the educational, cultural, civic, information, recreation, business, and life -long learning needs of residents through the provision of library resources. 5.4 Promote collaborations among community groups, educational institutions and the Public Library to enhance sharing of information, resources, and financial support for library facilities, services and programs. 7. DISCUSSION and BACKGROUND OPLF is donating $9,848.84 to meet various Library needs. The generous dollar amounts coming from the Orange Public Library Foundation include: • $8,143.84 to purchase laptops. Due to the advanced age and increased circulation of the library's current laptops, new laptops are needed for patrons as well as staff. • $755 to fund teen programming. Funds will be used to purchase laptops as incentives to the participants of "STEAM for Teens ", a program sponsored by OPLF and Southern California Edison that focuses upon teaching the STEAM curriculum. • $500 to purchase yearbooks. Funds from an endowment earmarked for local history will purchase high school yearbooks to add to the library's Local History collection. • $450 to fund children's programming. Funds will be used to bring the "Look up to the Stars" astronomy program to the library. The Orange Public Library will publicize OPLF's contributions in a variety of ways, including bookplates where appropriate, and credit for programming support on the Library's website, flyers, and calendars. 8.
