Design Review Committee
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, pursuant to California Government Code §54974, that an
unscheduled vacancy exists on the Design Review Committee due to the resignation of
Michael Lopez. The unexpired term ends on June 30, 2028. The successful appointee
will be required to file a Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700) within 30 days of
assuming office. In addition, AB1234 Ethics Education and AB1661 Sexual Harassment
Avoidance Training certificates are required.
The Design Review Committee is established to uphold community aesthetics.
Recognizing that the inclusion of specific aesthetic development standards is
impracticable due to the variable nature of architectural concepts, construction materials
and aesthetic goals from one time period to another and from one neighborhood to
another, it is in the public interest to establish an authority for project review. Among the
key responsibilities of the Committee is evaluation of building modifications in the City's
historic districts in support of the historic preservation goals and policies of the General
Plan, and to ensure conformance with federal and local standards.
Qualifications: Members must have their primary residence or primary place of
employment in the City. Committee members shall be qualified to analyze and interpret
architectural and site planning information, including, but not limited to, licensed
landscape architects, architects, urban planners, engineers and licensed general
contractors. At least two members shall have professional experience in urban planning,
architectural history or historic preservation and possess a general knowledge of
architecture in the City's Historic District.
Meetings: The Design Review Committee meets on the first and third Wednesday of each
month at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber.
Application Deadline: Open until filled. In accordance with Government Code § 54974,
final appointment to the board shall not be made by the City Council for at least 10
business days after the posting of this notice.
