NOTICE OF UNSCHEDULED VACANCY
Orange Public Library Board of Trustees
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, pursuant to California Government Code §54974, that an
unscheduled vacancy exists on the Library Board of Trustees due to the resignation of
Peggy Calvert. The unexpired term ends on June 30, 2027. The successful appointee will
be required to file a Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700) within 30 days of
assuming office. In addition, AB1234 Ethics Education and AB1661 Sexual Harassment
Avoidance Training certificates are required.
The Library Board is an advisory board primarily responsible for setting library policy and
regulations, and supporting library related goals and policies contained in the General
Plan; and shall not have direct responsibility for budget and staff oversight.
Qualifications: Applicants must have an understanding and appreciation of the role of the
public library in the community and in a democracy. Members must be City of Orange
residents, library users, and should value books and information delivery.
The general duties of the position are to represent the community's thoughts on library
service in order that library goals and objectives are reflective of community needs, advise
the Library Director and City Council on issues and services, and set annual objectives
that work in conjunction with ongoing actions and activities.
Meetings: Board meetings are typically held on the third Monday of each month at 3:30
p.m.
Application Deadline: Open until filled. In accordance with Govt. Code 54974, final
appointment to the board shall not be made by the City Council for at least 10 business
days after the posting of this notice.
