AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ORANGE ADDING SECTION 3209.5 TOTBE ORANGE
MUNICIPAL CODE PROHIBITING PARKING DURING
SCHOOL HOURS WHERE SIGNS ARE ERECTED AND
MAINTAINED TO INDICATE SUCH PROHIBITION.
WHEREAS, the parking of vehicles on public streets in areas
immediately adjacent to schools may create hazards to the safety
of children; and
WHEREAS, public streets near schools where parking may
create such safety hazards have been posted with signs by the
City to prohibit parking during school hours; and
WHEREAS, the Orange Police Department is presently citing
violators of said signs under California Vehicle Code Section
21461, which is a general section dealing with failure to obey
any traffic sign or signal; and
WHEREAS, the Orange Police Department and the City Council
of the City desires that there should be a specific ordinance to
prohibit parking on public streets near schools during school
hours where these areas are posted with signs indicating such
parking prohibitions.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I:
The following section of the orange Municipal Code is added
and shall read as fo 110ws :
Section 3209.5 Same
It shall be unlawful for any driver of a vehicle to
fail to obey any sign erected or maintained to indicate
no parking during school hours. Parking shall be
prohibited during designated school hours.
SECTION II:
This ordinance shall be published once within fifteen (15)
days after its passage in the Orange City News, a newspaper of
general circulation, published and circulated in the City of
Orange, and shall take effect thirty (30) days from and after
the date of its final passage.
