79 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE ADOPTING CERTAIN AMENDMENTS TO
THE ORANGE MUNICIPAL CODE MODIFYING THE DANCE
HALL USES PERMITTED IN THE C-l AND
C-2 DISTRICTS BY REQUIRING THE ISSUANCE OF
A CONDITIONAL OSE PERMIT FOR A DANCE H~~L
AND CERTAIN
SPECIFIED DANCE
AREAS.Amendment 4-
79 CITY OF ORANGE WIIEREAS, the City Council finds that
there have been parking problems because of insufficient
off-street
parking for dance halls, and WIIEREAS, the City Council finds
that residents in the area of dance halls have complained about
the noise levels from
music at dance halls, and WIIEREAS, the City Council finds
that residents in the area of dance halls have complained about
the noise levels created by those departing dance halls as dance
halls are required to close at
2:00 a.m., and WIIEREAS, the city Council finds
that dance halls have a distinct impact on the area in which
they are located or are capable of creating
special problems for bordering
properties unless given special attention.NOW, THEREFORE, TilE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF
ORANGE DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:SECTION I:sections 9100.143 and 9100.144
are hereby added to the Orange Municipal Code
and shall read as follows:
section 9100.143 Dance Area Dance area is any room
or place or space where which is open to the public
is held as an accessory the principal use of a
lot or
building located

lot.

9108 C-l (Local Business) District Uses Permitted
f) The following uses shall be subject to the issuance of
a conditional use permit as provided in Section 9114 of
this Code:
11. When a dance area is proposed as an accessory use
and anyone of the following circumstances apply:
a. Over 300 square feet of space is used as a
dance area.
b. Over 15 percent of the public area of the
building or lot is used as a dance area.
c. The dance area is within 500 feet of a
residential use,
12. Any other retail business, office or commercial
enterprise which is similar in character to, and
not more detrimental to the welfare of adjacent
uses than any use enumerated in this section.
SECTION III:
Dance Halls" in Subsection (b) of section 9109 of the
Orange Municipal Code is hereby repealed and subsection (e)(6)
of Section 9109 is added to read as follows:
Section 9109 C-2 (General Business) District Uses
Permitted e) The following uses shall be subject to the issuance
of a conditional use permit as provided in Section 9114
et seq. of this

IV:This ordinance shall be published once within fifteen (
15)days after its passage in the Orange. Ci ty News ~ a newsl?aper
of general circulation, published and c~rculated ~n the C~ty
of Orange, and shall take effect thirty (30) days from and
after the date of its final
