Orange Public Library Board of Trustees
February 27, 2023
The Orange Public Library Board of Trustees of the City of Orange, California convened on
February 27, 2023 at 3:30 p.m. in ai Regular Meeting in the Salter Annex of the Taft Library
Branch, 740 E. Taft Avenue, Orange, California.
1. OPENING/CALL TO ORDER
Chair Martinez called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.
1.1 PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Chair Martinez led the flag salute.
1.2 ROLL CALL
Present: Huber, Calvert, and Martinez
Absent: Montgomery
2. PUBLIC COMMENTS
None.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
3.1 Approval of meeting minutes of the Orange Public Library Board of Trustees for
the November 21, 2022 and January 23, 2023 Regular Meetings.
A motion was made by Trustee Calvert, seconded by Vice Chair Huber, to approve the
minutes as presented.
The motion carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Huber, Calvert, and Martinez
Noes: None
Absent: Montgomery
4. FRIENDS OF THE ORANGE PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT
Christine Huard -Spencer reported the following on behalf of the Friends of the Orange
Public Library ("Friends"):
• Bookstore improvements and reorganization of book sale categories.
• An update on bookstore and internet sales.
• 2023 book sale dates have been decided:
o March 25 - Spring Bag Sale
o April 8 - Heritage Days

o June 24 - Children's Courtyard Sale
o September 23 - Fall Bag Sale
o December 1 - Holiday Boutique
• Erica Colburn was appointed the new Book Sale Coordinator.
5. ORANGE PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT
Lynn -Marie Frediani reported
the following on behalf of
the Orange Public Library
Foundation ("Foundation"):
• Foundation Board updates:
o Second Vice President
of Development to focus on
capital campaigning - Larry
Cohn
o Treasurer _ Steve Freeman
• The next Legacy Awards are set for June 4, 2023 and will take place in the Sandhu
Conference Center at Chapman University.
• Updates on fundraising:
o "Giving Tuesday" in November 2022 raised $370.00;
it was used to purchased
voice -activated children's books.
o "National Library Giving Day" in April 2023.
o Future programs and grant opportunities.
6. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
6.1 Updates
John Ferry, Taft Site Supervisor, provided an update on the Taft Library Branch,
including:
• Updates on building renovations and the creation of a new study room.
• Events and programs
• The addition of a new seed library
• Upcoming building improvement proposals
Dave Curtis, Library Services Director, provided a report on current events at the
Library, including:
• Statistics on events and programs.
• Heritage Days will take place on April 8, 2023.
• Carnival Books is planned to return for author events in the summer.
• Main has a new display on Trailblazing Women.
• Library staffing updates.
• An announcement of upcoming Library events, programs, and budget requests.
6.2 Financial Report Through January 2023
The January 2023 Financial Report was received and filed.

7. BOARD REPORTS
7.1 Reports from Chair
February 27, 2023
• The Orange Chamber of Commerce will host "Leadership Orange" on March 8,
2023. The event will include a tour of the Orange Public Library & History Center.
7.2 Reports from Trustees
The Trustees had the following to report:
• Trustee Calvert provided update on Ukulele Soup.
• Vice Chair Huber asked about the library board vacancy.
7.3 Report: Serving with a Purpose Conference
The Trustees discussed the benefits of attending the 2023 Serving With A Purpose
Conference to represent the Orange Public Library.
8. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
The next Regular Orange Public Library Board of Trustees meeting will be held on
Monday, March 20, 2023, at 3.30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Orange Public
Library & History Center.
