Orange Public Library Board of Trustees
January 23, 2023
The Orange Public Library Board of Trustees of the City of Orange, California convened on
January 23, 2023 at 3:30 p.m. in a Regular Meeting in the Community Room of the El
Modena Library Branch, 380 S. Hewes Street, Orange, California.
1. OPENING/CALL TO ORDER
Chair Martinez called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.
1.1 PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Chair Martinez led the flag salute.
1.2 ROLL CALL
Present: Huber, Calvert, Montgomery, and Martinez
Absent: None
2. PUBLIC COMMENTS
None.
3. FRIENDS OF THE ORANGE PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT
Vice Chair Huber reported the following on behalf of the Friends of the Orange Public
Library ("Friends"):
• Announcement of new members and volunteers.
• An update on bookstore and internet sales, including a report of the Holiday Book
Sale on December 10, 2022.
• Discovery Books will come on January 30, 2023 to collect books.
• The Friends Board held officer elections; Christine Huard -Spencer was re-elected
as Vice President and Mary Galuska was re-elected as Secretary.
.4. ORANGE PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT
Dave Curtis, Library Services Director, reported the following on behalf of the Orange
Public Library Foundation ("Foundation"):
• The next Legacy Awards are set for June 2023.
5. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
5.1 Updates
Dave Curtis, Library Services Director, provided a report on current events at the
Library, including:
• Updates on building renovations/closures.

• The ribbon -cutting ceremony for the Orange Public Library & History Center's
reopening.
• City Council meeting schedule updates.
• Staff participated in team development on January 16, 2023.
• Staffing updates.
• An announcement of upcoming Library events, programs, and budget requests.
5.2 Financial Report Through December 2022
The December 2022 Financial Report was received and filed.
6. BOARD REPORTS
6.1 Reports from Chair
• Chair Martinez and Dave Curtis, Library Services Director, toured the Anaheim East
Police Department station which is attached to a library and community room. A similar
layout may be beneficial at Grijalva Park.
• The Orange Chamber of Commerce will host "Leadership Orange" on March 8,
2023. The event will include a tour of the Orange Public Library & History Center.
• She asked if any details had been released for the annual "Serving with a Purpose"
conference.
6.2 Reports from Trustees
The Trustees had the following to report:
• Trustee Montgomery visited all three Library branches and praised the renovations.
• Trustee Calvert provided an update on how the quilt on display in the Children's
area of the Main Branch was cleaned during the holiday closure. She gave an update
on Ukulele Soup, including their performance at the ribbon -cutting ceremony at the
Main Branch.
• Vice Chair Huber asked if the parking lot space at the Taft Library Branch can be
used by other City departments or rented out to vendors.
7. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:37 p.m.
The next Regular Orange Public Library Board of Trustees meeting will be held on
Monday, February 27, 2023, at 3.30 p.m. in the Salter Annex at the Taft Library
Branch.
