HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD-06-00 Amend Ch 17.10 Oversized Garages in Residential ZonesORDINANCE NO. 6- 00 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE AMENDING CHAPTERS 17.10 AND 17.14 OF THE ORANGE MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO OVERSIZED GARAGES IN RESIDENTIAL ZONES. RECITALS: After report thereon by the Planning Commission and after due public hearing as required by law, the City Council of the City of Orange has concluded that the following amendments to Title 17 of the Orange Municipal Code should be adopted: NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I: Subsectionj is added to Section 17.1O.060.D,1 of the Orange Municipal Code to read as follows: j. Construction of an attached or detached garage in any residential zone, where the garage door exceeds eight feet in height." SECTION II: Section 17.14.160 of the Orange Municipal Code is amended to read as follows: 17.14.160 Attached Accessory Structures or Garages. Where a garage or accessory structure is attached to and made a part of the principal strueture, at least fifty (50) percent of the length of one of the walls of the accessory structure or garage shall be an integral part of the principal structure, and the garage or accessory structure shall comply in all respects with the requirements of this title applicable to a principal structure. Residential garages shall be designed and constructed to accommodate motor vehicles typi,cally associated with household use. Residential garage doors exceeding eight feet in height may be permitted only upon approval of a minor site plan review in accordance with Section 17.10.060 of this Title," SECTION III: Subsection F is added to Section 17.14.170 of the Orange Municipal Code to read as follows: F. Garage Doors. Residential garages shall be designed and constructed to accommodate motor vehicles typically associated with household use. Residential garage doors exceeding eight feet in height may be permitted only upon approval of a minor site plan review in accordance with Section 17.10.060 ofthis Title,"SECTION IV:A summary of this Ordinance shall be published and a certified copy of the full text of this Ordinance shall be posted in the Office of the City Clerk at least five (5) days prior to the City Council meeting at which this Ordinance is adopted. A summary of this Ordinance shall also be published once within fifteen (15) days after this Ordinance's passage in a newspaper of general circulation, published, and circulated in the City of Orange. The City Clerk shall post in the Office of the City Clerk a certified copy of the full text of such adopted Ordinance along with the names of those City Council members voting for and against the Ordinance in accordance with Government Code Section 36933.
