Orange Public Library Board of Trustees
April 18, 2022
The Orange Public Library Board of Trustees of the City of Orange, California convened on
April 18, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. in a Regular Meeting in the Rotary Room of the Orange Public
Library & History Center, 407 E. Chapman Avenue, Orange, California.
1. OPENING/CALL TO ORDER
Chair Martinez called the meeting to order at 3:31 p.m.
1.1 PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Chair Martinez led the flag salute.
1.2 ROLL CALL
Present: Huber, Calvert, Martinez, and Montqomery
Absent: Valencia
2. PUBLIC COMMENTS
None.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Approval of ineeting minutes of the Orange Public Library Board of Trustees for
the March 21, 2022, Regular Meeting.
A motion was made by Trustee Calvert, seconded by Vice Chair Huber, to approve
minutes as presented.
The motion carried by the following vote:
Aves: Huber, Calvert, Martinez, and Montqomery
Noes: None
Absent: Valencia
4. STAFF PRESENTATION
Children's and Teen Services Manager Shannon Lane provided an update on
programs and special collections, along with introducing Children's Teen Librarian,
Erica Childs. The library received grant funds to purchase items to create Early Literacy
and School Readiness kits that can be checked out by patrons. These kits have been
very popular. They are currently putting together Sewing kits that include a sewing
machine.

5. FRIENDS OF THE ORANGE PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT
Vice Chair Huber provided the update for the Friends of the Library. They continue to
raise funds for the library. The bookstore is doing well and they have an upcoming
book sale scheduled.
6. ORANGE PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT
Steve Freeman provided the update for the Library Foundation. The Library Foundation
presented a check to the Orange Public Library at the April City Council meeting for
$60,000. The Foundation's Gala is set for September 25, 2022.
7. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
7.1 Updates
Library Director Curtis reported on current events at the Library, including programs,
funding and donations, personnel updates, and new equipment purchases. The Library
has an exhibit displayed at EI Modena and Main Libraries to celebrate 75 years of
equal rights featuring the Mendez et. al. vs. Westminster et. al. case which is one of
the first desegregation cases in the country.
7.2 Financial Report
Financial Report July 2021 - March 2022.
The Library was approved to purchase new furniture for the meeting room.
The April 2022 Financial Report was received and filed.
8. BOARD REPORTS
8.1 Reports from Chair
Chair Martinez has not heard back from the Orange Unified School District's Media
Specialists. She will continue to pursue this matter.
8.2 Reports from Trustees
None.
9. OLD BUSINESS
9.1 Serving with a Purpose Conference
The Board confirmed attendance and tickets have been purchased for Martinez,
Huber, and Calvert.
10. NEW BUSINESS
None.
11. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:47 p.m.

The next Regular Orange Public Library Board of Trustees meeting will be held on
Monday, May 16, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. in the Orange Public Library & History Center
Rotary Room.
