HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD-14-01 Delete 2.10.060F & 2.10.100D- Campaign ContributionsORDINANCE NO. 14- 01 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE DELETING SUBSECTIONS 2.10.060.F AND 2.10.100.D OF THE ORANGE MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS.WHEREAS, the City Council adopted the City of Orange Campaign Reform Law in 1992, which law limits campaign contributions to candidates for City of Orange offices; and WHEREAS, limits on campaign contributions must be balanced against the rights to freedom of speech guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution of the State of California and the Constitution of the United States.OW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:SECTION I:Subsection 2.10.060.F which aggregates the campaign contributions of a husband and wife is hereby deleted in its entirety. Subsection 2.10.060.G. shall be re- designated as Subsection 2.10. 060.F. SECTION II:Subsection 2.10.1 OO.D. which limits the amount a c.andidate can loan his or her controlled committee is hereby deleted in its entirety. Subsection 2.10.100.E. shall be re-designatedSubsection 2.10.100.D. and Subsection 2.10.100.F. shall be re-designated Subsection 2.10. 100.E.SECTION III.A summary of this Ordinance shall be published and a certified copy of the full text of this Ordinance shall be posted in the Office of the City Clerk at least five (5) days prior to the City Council meeting at which this Ordinance is to be adopted. A summary of this Ordinance shall also be published once within fifteen (15) days after this Ordinance' s passage in a newspaper of general circulation, published, and circulated in the City of Orange. The City Clerk shall post in the Office of the City Clerk a certified copy of the full text of such adopted Ordin:mce along with the names of those City Council members voting ordinance in accordance with Government Code Section 36933.
