RES-7876 Commending and Congratulating Lieutenant General Royal N. Moore, Jr.RESOLUTION NO. 7876 A RESOLUTION OF TBB CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGB COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING LJ:BUTENANT GENERAL ROYAL H. MOORE, JR., FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SBRVICE TO THE U. S. MARINE CORPS AND TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. WHEREAS, General Moore was born in Pasadena, California, and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in May, 1953. In 1956, he was selected as a Naval Aviation Cadet and commenced flight training at the Naval Air station, Pensacola, Florida. He was designated a Naval Aviator and commissioned a Second Lieutenant in June, 1958; and WHEREAS, while serving in south vietnam he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with bronze numeral 18, for flying a total of 287 combat missions; and WHEREAS, General Moore attended Chapman college in Orange, California, completing the requirements for a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics/Business Administration in June, 1971; and WHEREAS, General Moore, following graduation from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff college, served as a Squadron Commander, Commanding Officer of Marine Air Group 14, and Assistant Chief of Staff of the 1st and 2nd Marine Aircraft wings; and WHEREAS, after serving at Headquarters, united States Marine Corps, in July of 1984 was advanced to Brigadier General and assigned to duties as Assistant wing Commander, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing; and WHEREAS, in August of 1987 he was advanced to the rank of Lieutenant General and assumed command in August of 1989 of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing; and WHEREAS, during Operation Desert Shield and Storm, General Moore successfully deployed the 3rd Marine Aircraft wing over 8,000 miles to the harsh climatic conditions of Southwest Asia. Displaying superb leadership over the largest Marine Aircraft Wing ever assembled, he integrated Marine air forces from throughout the Marine Corps and trained them for combat. Additionally, General Moore assisted in the development of the I Marine Expeditionary Force battle plan and personally led his Wing in the air campaign against the enemy forces destroying their will and capability to fight which led ultimately to their decisive defeat; and WHEREAS, for his impressive combat performance and achievements he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal and advanced to the rank of Lieutenant General. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the city Council of the city of Orange hereby recognizes Lieutenant General Royal N. Moore, Jr., and his wife, Pat, as official citizens of the City of Orange with all the rights and privileges thereof. ADOPTED this loth day of September, 1991.
