A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE COMMENDING MAJOR GENERAL
ROYAL MOORE, JR., COMMANDING GENERAL,
THIRD MARINE AIRCRAFT WING, FOR HIS
OUTSTANDING CAREER AS A MARINE
AVIATOR AND FOR HIS ROLE IN THE
OPERATION DESERT STORM VICTORY.
WHEREAS, Major General Royal Moore, Jr., of the united
States Marine Corps is a skillful aviator with more than
5,500 hours of flight time in 37 types of aircraft; and
WHEREAS, General Moore, during his distinguished
career, has held many important staff and command positions
in the Marines corps; and
WHEREAS, he has received numerous service awards and
medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air
Medal with the bronze numeral 18; and
WHEREAS, General Moore was among the team of outstand-
ing military leaders who brought the war in the Persian Gulf
to a quick and decisive conclusion; and
WHEREAS, as commanding General of the Third Marine
Aircraft wing, he directed 16,000 marines and 460 aircraft
in operation Desert Storm; some of his planes were among the
first aircraft to hit Iraqi positions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the city council of
the City of orange to hereby commend Major General Royal
Moore, Jr., Commanding General, Third Marine Aircraft Wing,
for his brilliant career as a Marine aviator and for his
outstanding role in the Operation Desert storm victory.
