A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE COMMENDING LIEUTENANT GENERAL
THOMAS W. KELLY (RET.) FOR HIS MANY YEARS
OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE UNITED STATES
ARMY AND TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.
WHEREAS, Lieutenant General Thomas W. Kelly began his
distinguished military career when he received his
commission as Second Lieutenant upon completing the ROTC
Program at Temple University where he received his degree in
journalism; and
WHEREAS, General Kelly's military education included
the Armor School, the Infantry School, the Army Command and
General Staff School and the Army War College, and he
received numerous awards and combat decorations; and
WHEREAS, during his military service he held many
important staff and command positions, but perhaps his
greatest role was as Director of Operations for the Joint
Chiefs of Staff; and
WHEREAS, as Director of Operations he was responsible
for all operations of the entire military capability of the
united States; and
WHEREAS, he was an important part of that magnificent
military team that won the great victory in the Persian
Gulf.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the city Council of
the city of Orange to hereby commend Lieutenant General
Thomas W. Kelly (Ret.) for his many years of outstanding
service in the United States Army and to the American
People.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that General Kelly have a most
fulfilling and fruitful retirement.
ADOPTED this 23rd day of April, 1991.
