A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ORANGE COMMENDING RT.
REV. MSGR. JOHN F. SAMMON, P.A. UPON
HIS 50TH YEAR OF PRIESTHOOD
WHEREAS, 50 years ago on May 30, 1942, Monsignor John F.
Sammon was ordained into the priesthood of the Roman Catholic
Church; and
WHEREAS, he was born and raised in Massachusetts, graduated
with an A.B. Degree from Holy Cross and an S.T.B. from St. Mary's
Seminary; and
WHEREAS, he received the title of Monsignor in 1974, two
years later received appointment to Vicar for Pastoral and
Community Affairs for the Diocese of Orange, and in 1986 received
the Protonotary Apostolic Papal Honor from Pope John Paul II; and
WHEREAS, Msgr. Sammon has served as Pastor to various
parishes in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, dedicating his life to
serving God, giving guidance and spiritual inspiration to his
congregation and earning the highest respect and admiration of the
members of the community; and
WHEREAS, he has provided a legacy of wit, wisdom, and love
throughout the years, and has generously devoted countless hours in
numerous religious and civic projects, and serving as Chaplain for
the Orange Police and Fire Departments, assisting in any emergency
wherever needed; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Orange, California, do hereby commend the Rt. Rev. Msgr.
John F. Sammon, P.A. upon reaching this important milestone of fifty
years of loyal service to his fellow man, and do hereby proclaim the
week beginning May 30, 1992, as "MONSIGNOR JOHN SAMMON
WEEK IN THE CITY OF ORANGE."
