A RESOLUTION OP THE CITY COUNCIL OP
THE CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO CITY MANAGER RONALD L. THOMPSON AND
COMMENDING HIM FOR HIS OUTSTANDING
RECORD OP SERVICE TO THE CITY OP ORANGE.
WHEREAS, Ron Thompson came to the City of Orange as the
city's first Economic Development Director in August, 1985 from
the City of Anaheim where he spent the previous 10 years as the
Planning Director and Economic Development Manager; and
WHEREAS, when the Orange City Council combined the Community
Development and Economic Development Departments in 1987, he was
named the Director of the new agency; and
WHEREAS, Ron was appointed city Manager of the city of
Orange on April 1, 1989, after serving as Acting City Manager
since November 1988; and
WHEREAS, he has provided exceptional public service to the
City of Orange and has directed such projects as the
rehabilitation of a large number of businesses on North Tustin
street; implementation of the Koll project on state College and
Orangewood; construction of affordable senior citizen housing on
Palmyra street; development of a new shopping center on the
corner of Main and Chapman; as well as other planning projects
including the general plan update, the sign code update, and
developing an award winning general plan for East Orange; and
WHEREAS, Ron will retire on October 1, 1993, after more than
eight years serving the City of Orange and a career of more than
31 years of dedicated public service and remarkable achievement
in the areas of city management, planning, zoning, building and
economic development; and
WHEREAS, Ron has made outstanding and lasting contributions
to the City of Orange and to the citizens of all the cities he
has served during his outstanding career; and
WHEREAS, Ron's professionalism, expertise and dedication to
the City of Orange and its citizens will be sorely missed after
his retirement.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council, on
behalf of the citizens of Orange, hereby expresses sincere
appreciation to Ron Thompson for his loyal and dedicated service
to the City of Orange.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the city Council, on behalf of
all employees of the City of Orange, wishes Ron health, happiness
and fulfillment in retirement and all his future endeavors.
