LIFB-SAVING AID TO TBN MONTH

RIVAS.WHBREAS, on July 14, 1993, Jonathan Rivas accidentally
fell into a swimming pool, after crawling out of the residence
where his mother was babysitting:
and WHEREAS, Jonathan Rivas was pulled, unconscious, from
the pool by his mother whose screaming and crying had
alerted neighbors who called 9-
1-1: and WHBREAS, Ms. Mendez, who was driving in
the area, observed the ongoing life-saving
efforts by neighbors: and WHBREAS, Ms. Mendez exited her
vehicle and assisted with C.P.R. after moving Jonathan Rivas to
a shaded area: and WHEREAS, Ms. Mendez translated
for emergency personnel, as the
mother spoke only Spanish.NOW, THBREFORE, BB IT RESOLVBD that the
City Council of the city of Orange, on behalf of all its
citizens, commends Ms. Carol Mendez for her unselfish and heroic
actions in averting the possible tragic loss of life
in this unfortunate incident.ADOPTED this 14th
day
of September, 1993.
