RES-8203 Loyal Service Appreciation for William CourtneyRESOLUTION NO. 8203 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE COMMENDING WILLIAM COURTNEY FOR EIGHTEEN YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITY OF ORANGE AS A MEMBER OF THE ORANGE PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES. WHEREAS, William Courtney was a member of the Orange Public Library Board of Trustees, an organization dating back to June 15, 1885: and WHEREAS Bill has served from July 1, 1975 to June 30, 1993, this being one of the longest continuous service of any member of the Library Board of Trustees, during which time he served as chairperson several times: and WHEREAS, he witnessed the enormous growth of the city of Orange in general, and the Library in particular: and WHEREAS, Bill took an active role in supporting the expansion of the Orange Public Library which resulted in the addition of the EI Modena Branch in 1978, the Edwards House in 1981, the Salter Annex in 1982 and the santiago Hills Branch in 1990, as well as the implementation of the Library Automated System in 1989: and WHEREAS, Bill was always a champion of a free and independent Orange Public Library, advocated and defended the Library'S mission which is as follows: "The Orange Public Library is committed to providing materials and services to meet the informational, educational and recreational needs of the entire community in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The Library supports intellectual freedom, preserves local heritage, and respects the cultural diversity of the community." NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the city Council of Orange on behalf of the citizens of Orange, the present and past members of: Library Board of Trustees, Friends of the Library, Library Staff, and Library Directors, do hereby express their deep appreciation for services performed, and wish Bill good health and happiness. ADOPTED this 13th day of July, 1993.
