RES-8400 Loyal Service Appreciation for Mayor Gene BeyerRESOLUTION NO. 8400 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO MAYOR GENE BEYER AND COMMENDING HIM FOR FOURTEEN YEARS OF DEDICATED AND OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE CITY OF ORANGE AS A MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND AS MAYOR OF THE CITY. WHEREAS, Gene Beyer was first elected to the City Council in 1980 and has served continuously through a period of unprecedented growth for the City; and WHEREAS, after serving as Mayor Pro Tem from 1988 to 1990, Gene was elected Mayor in 1990 and was re-elected in 1992; and WHEREAS, Mayor Beyer has also served with distinction on numerous governmental boards,commissions and committees; and WHEREAS, he received the honor of being chosen to serve as Chairman of the Orange Centennial Commission and in that position, provided inspirational leadership to the City; and WHEREAS, over a period of thirty-four years of outstanding community service, he has received many awards, including the Orange Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award,Orange County Department of Education Outstanding Contribution to Education Award, and Rotary Club Community Recognition Award; and WHEREAS, Mayor Beyer served as a Vice Principal and Principal of schools in the Orange Unified School District and certainly one of his finest accomplishments and greatest successes has been his dedication and guidance in providing education about drug abuse to thousands of young people in this community; and WHEREAS, Mayor Beyer's contributions to the City Council and to the community deserve the praise and admiration of all citizens; and WHEREAS, Mayor Gene Beyer's illustrious leadership provides a very high standard of devoted public service for others to emulate.NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Orange expresses to Mayor Gene Beyer its sincere appreciation for his more than thirty- four years of community service, including fourteen years of dedicated and outstanding service as Councilman and Mayor of the BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council on behalf of the citizens of Orange extends very best wishes to Gene, his wife Lois, and their entire family.
