A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE
APPROVING THE RECLASSIFICATION OF ONE FULL-TIME LIBRARY
PAGE pOS. 658), SALARY RANGE 253 - $1260-1615 PER MONTH, TO
LIBRARY ASSISTANT, SALARY RANGE 359 - $1936-2480 PER MONTH,
ASSIGNED TO THE CHILDREN'S SECTION OF THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT,
AND AMENDING THE PROFESSIONAL, TECHNICAL, AND CLERICAL
UNIT RESOLUTION NO. 7614, DELETING THE CLASSIFICATION OF
20-HOUR MEDIA ASSISTANT (POS. 686) TO OFFSET THE COST
OF
THE RECLASSIFICATION.WHEREAS, the Library Assistant position assigned to the Children's Section
of the Library was eliminated on July 1, 1993 as part of the overall budget
reduction; and WHEREAS, Fiscal Year 93-94 has reduced the staffing level of the
Children's Section from four full-time positions to two full-time
positions, a 50% reduction; and WHEREAS, as a result, the department has
experienced a significant amount of difficulty in meeting the needs and demands of the public
in children's services; and WHEREAS, reorganization is now required in order
for the Library Department to maintain an acceptable level of service to the public,
especially during
the coming summer months; and WHEREAS, to accomplish the above reclassification
without impact to the general budget, staff recommends that the position of Library Page (
Position #658), salary range 253:1260-1619 per month, be reclassified to Library
assistant, salary
range 359: $1936-2480 per month; and WHEREAS, to offset the cost of
the reclassification, staff further recommends that the 20-hour Media Assistant classification (
Position #680) which has been vacant
since February,1994, be deleted from the budget.NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the
City Council of the City of Orange that the above recommended actions be
implemented effective April 12, 1994, to enable the Library Department to better
serve and meet the needs of the
community.ADOPTED
