A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE OPPOSING MEASURE R
COUNTY SALES TAX BALLOT MEASURE).
WHEREAS, on December 6, 1994, the County of Orange declared bankruptcy for
itself, and the Orange County investment Pool (OCIP); and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Supervisors subsequently placed a
proposed new one half cent sales tax increase, listed as Measure R, on the June 27 ballot;
and
WHEREAS, higher levels of taxation will impair the economic recovery in
Orange County just as the county, state, and nation has suffered through several years of
economic recession; and
WHEREAS, other viable options, yet to be fully evaluated, do exist to address
this crisis.
NOW, TI!EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Orange that the City of Orange opposes the Measure R sales tax increase as a solution to
the Orange County fiscal crisis.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Orange urges all cities and
special districts in the County of Orange to take similar actions to solve this fiscal crisis
without new taxes.
