RES-8770 Loyal Service Appreciation for Sergeant Juan A. MarrujoRESOLUTION NO. 8770 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO SERGEANT JUAN A. MARRUJO OF THE ORANGE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND COMMENDING HIM FOR MORE THAN TWENTY EIGHT YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE. WHEREAS, Juan Armando "Mando" Marrujo began his service with the City of Orange Police Department on June 13, 1969; and WHEREAS, prior to joining the Police Department Juan served his country from August 4, 1959, to December 12, 1968, in the United States Marine Corps where he attained the rank of Gunnery Sergeant; and WHEREAS, Juan received three Purple Hearts for wounds he received in combat when he served two tours during the Vietnam War as a member of the USMC Force Recon; and WHEREAS, Juan, after attending the Los Angeles Police Department Academy, started his career as a police officer where his assignments included patrol, was the first OPD School Resource Officer, the first OPD Community Services Officer, SWAT Team Member, and was a Footbeat Officer; and WHEREAS, Juan was assigned to Detectives as Narcotics Officer, returned to Patrol, served as Motor Officer, and then returned to Detectives as a Juvenile Detective, DARE Officer; and WHEREAS, Juan was promoted to Sergeant on June 3, 1990, served in the Patrol Division and later as Sergeant in the Internal Services Division; and WHEREAS, Juan is a graduate of the Delinquency Control Institute, USC, and received his BA Degree from California State University, Fullerton, in 1976 and; WHEREAS, Juan was President of the Latino Police Officer Association in 1988 and 1989, and served as President of the Orange High School Baseball Booster Club from 1990 through 1992; and WHEREAS, Juan, a valued and productive employee, with an outstanding career as an Orange Police Officer, has decided to retire on July 10,1997. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Orange expresses to Sgt. Juan Marrujo of the Orange Police Department its sincere appreciation for his more than 28 years of loyal and dedicated service to the City of Orange. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council, on behalf of the citizens of Orange, wishes Juan and his family a happy, healthy and fulfilling retirement.
