RES-9052 Loyal Service Appreciation for William G. SteinerRESOLUTION NO. 9052
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO THE HONORABLE
WILLIAM G. STEINER AND COMMENDING HIM FOR HIS YEARS
OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITY OF ORANGE.
WHEREAS, Bill Steiner dedicated his career to serving others many years ago
when he entered the field of social work.
His contemporaries quickly recognized his strong organizational skills, and promoted
him into positions of leadership. Beginning as Administrator of the Good Samaritan
Centers, he then became Director of the Albert Sitton Home. He was appointed
Deputy Director of Orangewood Children's Home & Intake Services, and three years
later formed the Orangewood Foundation and became its first Executive Director.
Bill was elected and served five years as a board member of the Orange Unified
School District. After appointment to the Orange City Council in 1988, he was
subsequently elected in 1990. His four-year term ended early when Governor
Pete Wilson appointed him to the Orange County Board of Supervisors in March of
1993.The next year, Orange County residents voted him into office for another four
years. As one of five county cities within the Fourth Supervisorial District, Bill
Steiner represented Orange well, both during times of financial peaks and valleys. Under
his leadership, we were able to reach an amicable City-County agreement
on the expansion of the Theo Lacy Jail. He has demonstrated a strong support for
our city park systems, youth sports, and community
social services.Although Bill is retiring from his position as Fourth District County
Supervisor, his reputation as one of the nation's most highly respected child advocates and
his love of children have pulled him back full circle, and he will soon assume the
position of a National Director of Childhelp,
in Phoenix.NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the
City of Orange hereby expresses gratitude to William G. Steiner, a man who
has impacted the lives of countless men, women, and children within the City, the County,
and to the far reaches of his influence. Our best wishes to one of Orange's finest
citizens as he enters this important new phase of
his life.ADOPTED, this 8'" day of
