A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ORANGE SUPPORTING THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION INSTALLATION OF SIGNS ON STATE
ROUTE 22 IDENTIFYING THE LOCATION OF THE OLD
TOWNE ORANGE mSTORIC DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the Old Towne Orange area was placed on the National Register of
Historic Places on July ll, 1997; and
WHEREAS, the Old Towne Orange Historic District also appears on the California
Register of Historic Resources and is the largest such District in the State of California; and
WHEREAS, the California Department of Transportation is developing a policy that
will enable qualifying historic downtown areas to obtain directional signage on the nearest
freeway within a three-mile radius directing motorists to such areas;
and WHEREAS, the California Department of Transportation has identified State
Route 22, also known as the Garden Grove Freeway, as the designated freeway for such signage
for the Old Towne Orange Historic District;
and WHEREAS, the City hereby requests and supports the installation of signs
identifying the location of the Old Towne Orange Historic District reading "Old Towne Orange," on
both east bound and west bound State Route 22;
and WHEREAS, in accordance with California Department of Transportation policy,
the City has installed signage at the State Route 22 Glassell Street/Grand A venue
offramps directiing motorists to the Old Towne Orange Historical District;
and WHEREAS, the City desires to pay all costs associated with sign production
and installation incurred by the California Department of
Transportation;NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Orange as
follows:Section 1.The above recitals are true and
correct.Section 2. The City of Orange requests and supports the installation of
signs identifying the location of the City's Old Towne Orange Historic District on State Route
22 Garden Grove Freeway) by the California Department of
