RES-8875 Loyal Service Appreciation for Eugene J. HernandezRESOLUTION NO. 8875 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO CAPTAIN EUGENE J. HERNANDEZ FOR MORE THAN 23 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE. WHEREAS, Eugene "Gene" J. Hernandez began his service as a Police Officer with the City of Orange Police Department on December 30, 1974 after serving 3 years as police officer with the Fullerton Police Department; and WHEREAS, Gene served as a Patrol Officer, Motor Officer, and Detective, was prornoted to Sergeant on October 26, 1981, Traffic Sergeant on October 16, 1983, Lieutenant on April 28, 1985 and served as a Watch Comrnander and was later promoted to Detective Lieutenant, where he becarne a Detective Commander. Gene was promoted to Captain on April 8, 1990 and has served as Cornmander of Patrol, Traffic, Administration and Detective Divisions; and WHEREAS, Gene has received a BA Degree in Criminal Justice and a MS Degree in Management, is a graduate of the FBI National Acaderny and the California POST Command College, receiving the Hank Kochn Award for the most inspirational student; and WHEREAS, Gene was honored by the City of Orange Police Association as the Supervisor of the Year in 1991, received the Medal of Distinction from the Chief of Police in 1996 and received the Volunteer ofthe Years Award from the YMCA in 1997; and WHEREAS, Gene has been very active within law enforcement as well as the community, serving as President of The Society of Police Futurists, President of the Cornrnand College Alumni Association, Past President and current Vice President of Family Solutions, Past President of the Orange North Rotary Club and the YMCA, Co- Chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Orange Program, Chairperson of the Gang Diversion Task Force, plus numerous other community programs; and WHEREAS, Gene designed and implemented, without cost to the City, the Police Officer badge, I.D. Card and Police Department decal; and WHEREAS, Captain Gene Hernandez will be leaving the Orange Police Department to becorne the Chief of Police of Chino, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council, on behalf of the citizens of Orange expresses its sincere appreciation to Captain Gene Hernandez of the Orange Police Department for his more than 23 years of loyal and dedicated service and wishes Gene all the best as the Chief of Police of Chino.
