A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ORANGE SUPPORTING THE LIST OF CANDIDATE
PROJECTS NOMINATED BY CALTRANS DISTRICT 12
FOR CONSIDERATION FOR INTEREGIONAL
TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS (ITIP).
WHEREAS, with the passage of TEA 21 additional funding has been made available
to the State of California for new transportation projects, and
WHEREAS, Caltrans District 12 has submitted to the California Transportation
Commission (CTC) a list of nominated projects in Orange County for consideration for
Intel'egional Transportation Improvement Projects (ITIP), and
WHEREAS, top among projects on this list is the SR-22/City Drive
Interchange proj ect,
and WHEREAS, this project is not only of great importance for the freeway system, but
is also of considerable benefits to the City's local circulation network in the area,
and WHEREAS, the City has already spent over $180,000 to prepare a Project
Study Report (PSR) for this project,
and WHEREAS, the City has secured $3 million in local funding contributions for
this proj,~ct,
and WHEREAS, the City is working closely with the Orange County
Transportation Authority (OCTA) to even increase the amount of local funding contributions for this
project,
and WHEREAS, this project will significantly improve the opportunities for the
Urban Rail ("Centedine") Project's crossing over Santa Ana River and the "Orange Crush"
interchange area,
and WHEREAS, those improved opportunities will considerably facilitate the Main/
La Veta alignment alternative for the Urban Rail Project which is the City's preferred
alternative.NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Orange does resolve as
follows:1. That the SR-22/City Drive interchange improvement project submitted
by Caltrans District 12 for consideration for ITIP funding, has full community support
in the City
of Orange.2. That this project is considered the highest priority project for the City
3. That the City of Orange is committing, at a minimum, $3 million toward the
design and construction of this project..
4. That the City will work actively and aggressively with the OCTA to secure
additional local funding contributions for this project.
