MINUTES
November 20, 1989
I . The regular meeting of the Orange Public Library Board of Trustees
was calied to order at 4:30 p.m. by Chairman Tom Saenz at the Taft
Branch Library.
Present: Trustees Courtney, Gorham, McEwan, Saenz and Way. Also
present, Joan Campbeli , Head of Technical Services; Kerry Stern,
Main Library Manager ; Hazel Wang, Branch Libraries Manager ;
Karen Leo, Library Director ; and Sheila Gannon, Administrative
Secretary.
II . Trustee Gorham moved that the minutes of the October 16 meeting be
approved as presented . Seconded by Trustee Way. Motion carried.
III . Legisiative Update
There was no report.
IV. Library Director 's Report
The Library Director 's report was reviewed and discussed. The
report of vandalism in the men's public restroom at Taft Branch
Library was discussed and possible ways to curtail the probiem were
suggested.
V. Old Business
A. Library Autornation Project Report
Joan Campbell , Automation Coordinator , gave an update on the
progress of the automation project. 5he said orders will soon
be placed for Phase II , an online public access catalog (OPAL) ,
and also for hardware for the Santiago Nilis Branch Library.
Technical Services has been entering item records into the
database for books which were not entered during retrospective
conversion.
